Project: TVET Umi Vocational School Project

Empowering Education Through Steel: The UMI TVET Transformation

In collaboration with the European Union, this project delivered the design, fabrication, and construction of state-of-the-art vocational training facilities in the Markham District of Papua New Guinea’s Morobe Province. Spanning from 2018 to 2020, the initiative was driven by the goal of strengthening technical education through modern, durable, and adaptable infrastructure tailored to local needs.

Designed with sustainability and future scalability in mind, the facilities were built using ATLAS STEEL’s modular steel systems—a choice that provided exceptional resistance to tropical weather conditions, ease of installation, and minimal maintenance requirements. These high-performance materials not only reduced construction time and labor costs but also ensured long-term operational efficiency, allowing educational institutions to allocate more resources toward student programs and support.

The project was developed through close engagement with local stakeholders, ensuring cultural relevance and fostering community ownership. The result is a resilient, future-ready learning environment that supports skills development, educational growth, and long-term community empowerment. The flexible steel-concept design also allows for future expansion as demand for vocational education continues to rise.

This initiative stands as a testament to the transformative impact of sustainable infrastructure and strategic collaboration in advancing education and opportunity across Papua New Guinea.
